Building with snow is always exciting. A bit more
dimensional than beach sand, I love the scale that becomes
possible when the snowfall packs firm and crunchy in your
hands. Building with snow usually means making something
temporary and precarious but sometimes a surprisingly
resilient and long-lasting project is possible. During one
winter season I worked as the Terrain-Park coordinator for
a small resort in Southern Oregon and helped construct and
maintain snow-features that were to last for up to 5
months. My favorite projects are those that can be
physically interacted with and snow provides a great medium
for that. For many years my work and play hinged on the
patterns of snowfall. Inclement weather usually draws me
outside.
Several wood block structures are also included here. I was
fortunate to have blocks counted among my earliest
playthings. The satisfaction in simple stacking remains.
