Foot on the Sea is a one-man* operation born from the idea that a boat should be a fine-tuned instrument as well as a work of beauty. My inspiration comes from the spirit of exploration and adventure that spurred the likes of Moitessier, Heyerdahl, Slocum, Wharram, Kruger, and the untold others who have chosen to put the sea beneath their feet. My focus is on boat types that can revive the contact between us and the natural world both in their construction and use. The boat may be a hand-hewn wood canoe designed for quiet paddling along a shallow river in search of the perfect fishing hole or picnic spot. Or the boat may be a graceful sailing catamaran handcrafted over the course of many months and sufficient in every way to inspire an expedition far out to sea.

The Foot on the Sea workshop is located about 36.06N - 86.73'W where the foothills of the Highland Rim slope into the fertile Nashville Basin. The area is surrounded by thousands of miles of waterways and linked to the Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico via the Cumberland River to the West and by the Tombigbee Waterway to the South.
